LIMEDROP INTERVIEW: Kim Victoria June 18 2014

Today Limedrop had the pleasure of speaking with the inspiring jewelry designer Kim Victoria! Q&A with Kim Victoria. Who you are? What do you do/ believe in? I am a Melbourne based jewellery maker who loves making pieces to celebrate special moments in people’s lives. I believe in attention to detail and constructing pieces that will both aesthetically and physically last for many years. My practice draws inspiration from the natural environment and the ancient jewels that I have been lucky enough to see in museums around the world. What your top two tips in making jewellery people treasure? I spend a lot of time developing my designs through photos, sketches and research. It is important to me that each piece has a genuine story behind it and this really resonates with my clients which I am grateful for. The quality of the materials in the pieces is also paramount. For example, I have recently traveled to Coober Pedy to source very beautiful Australian opals and meet the people that mine and cut the stones. What is something that you thought was impossible and is now possible? To be honest, I never really thought that I would be able to make a living as a jeweler. Now that this is my reality I feel most excited! I have meet so many remarkable people over the years who have also followed their creative passions - such as the beautiful Clea of Limedrop - all of whom serve as constant sources of inspiration and a reminder to keep going when the enormity of running a business threatens to overcome me.
